Sailing the Great Salt Lake

Before moving to Utah I lived in places surrounded by water and sailing.  Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco all had large bodies of water and thriving sailing communities. I was always had a fascination and interest in sailing but never had the opportunity to learn or pursue it.

In 2014, I finally started to learn to sail on the Great Salt Lake, of all places.  It was a funny irony that after living around water, I learned to sail in the high deserts of Utah.  For several years now I've been sailing with "the Saltiest Sailors on Earth" - the Great Salt Lake Marina and sailing community - and I've taken some incredible pictures of the Great Salt Lake in all it's splendor.

In 2021, the GSL's waters receded to the point that we had to remove the boats, reflecting an impending environmental catastrophe in our front yard.  This is an important part of our environment and our community, so I wanted to share my love for Utah in a very special way.

Throughout this site I have used some of my photos of sailing on the beautiful and haunting Great Salt Lake.  I hope you enjoy them and think about the importance of this incredibly valuable part of our ecosystem.
