ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Tim

WHERE I COME FROM

I’ve lived in Utah for 25 years and am proud to call Murray home for almost all of that time.  My parents grew up in Ogden but they moved to Chicago before I was born and I was raised in the south suburbs there.  I attended schools that took me to both coasts of the US and gave me some incredible experiences and insights.  Now, my parents, my siblings and I are all here in Utah, living along the Wasatch Front.

I studied at Boston University, received my undergraduate degree from Occidental College in Southern California and completed my MBA at the University of Utah.

A THRIVING CAREER

I am a business professional with a background in financial services, economic development, and alternative energy development.  I have experience in the private sector as well as in public service roles, reflecting my commitment to our community.

I worked in financial services for Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan Chase.  At the Energy Dynamics Lab at Utah State University I worked to develop alternative energy technologies.  I served as the Salt Lake City Economic Development Manager for the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUTAH).  Today, I am the Mountain West Regional Capital Equipment Advisor for a Utah owned company.

I served on the board of the Volunteers of America and was proud to be a part of developing the Homeless Youth Resource Center.  I served as the Chairman of the Salt Lake County Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund and the Community and Economic Development Advisory Commission, providing resources to small businesses and non-profits.

I hope you can see from my background that I believe in a balanced perspective that blends financial accountability with community service.  This balance of fiscal conservativism with social compassion are values that I think are shared by people who are more concerned with creating a better community and country than seeking political power and control.  They are the experiences and values that I bring to the table.

Why I am Running

I was a registered Independent for over 20 years because I fundamentally believed that our two party system is a problem.  I've watched our system deteriorate for years because being a part of one party seems to make you hate and distrust people from the other party.

I've always considered myself a moderate, a centrist, a Republicrat; I have a base of good values and morals combined with fiscal accountability, compassion for those less fortunate and a deep concern for our planet and our children.  Everyone I know expresses the same wish for a moderate party to balance the extremes, yet there was never one to be found.

Until the United Utah Party.

I first heard about The United Utah Party in 2016.  I believed in the message so strongly that I donated to the party.  In 2021, I received an email asking if I'd ever considered running for office.  Although my answer was a resounding NO, I realized that the UUP message of unity, civility and common sense was the right reason for me to get up off of the sidelines.

So I decided to run for this single reason:

Our two party system doesn't work.  We need to change our political attitudes and start behaving like adults.  And that is a message worth running for.
